Great-Grandpa Abe

Mom told me that today is the anniversary of Grandpa Abe's death. He's been gone for 68 years. He passed away in 1945. He was born a slave and after slavery, he fulfilled his dream of owning land, marrying the girl of his dreams (great-grandma Dollie), having children and prospering, which all came true.
Children:
  1. Claude
  2. Erma
  3. Rosa
  4. Hertha
  5. Clark
  6. Kenchion
  7. Annie
  8. Mary Dee
  9. Herman

My grandma once said to my mom, "People are dead much longer than they are alive." When mom told me this, I didn't think to much about it but over the years as I remember loved one and hear about my ancestors, it begins to make sense.

I'm adding a video of a poem that I love performed by Oscar Brown, Jr. - "This Beach"

The Journey

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride?’!’

The Wheat Family

Mom has had this photo of her dad's, my granddad's for years. We are looking for another frame because the original was damaged. Most old photos are oval in shape and slightly bubbled. Really unique but hard to replace parts.
I was so happy to get to see and document this photo of granddad's family.
I'm old enough to remember Great Uncle Will, Great Aunt Peachie, Cousin Oddie, Great Uncle A.D. and Great Aunt Sister (Ettalene).

These pages were found at Aunt Sister's home after her death and are copies from the Family Bible.

Brother David

My brother was born February 5, 1957, eighteen months after me. Here we are sitting on grandma's sofa, I think
